Notes on the Book of John, Chapters 13 - 17 The Upper Room and Garden Discourses This is a detailed study of these chapters of Jesus’ life on his last evening prior to His death on the cross as He washes the disciples’ feet, gives them the new commandment of love, predicts his betrayal and their desertion. It goes on to explain the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the centrality of obedience and concludes with His high priestly prayer. (25 pages) Notes on the Book of Acts (Section 1: Acts 1:1 - 12:24) This study covers the first section of the Book of Acts from Acts 1:1-12:24. In this section of the book, Peter is the main spokesman for Christ along with other disciples. This study not only deals with the flow of the book but gives practical applications of the text to the lives of believers and even unbelievers. In addition, this study deals with difficult passages concerning the Holy Spirit, tongues, healing, water baptism and other issues. (56 pages) (Section 2: Acts 12:25 - 28:31) This study covers the second section of the Book of Acts from Acts 12:25 – 28:31. In this section of the book, Paul is the main spokesman for Christ along with other disciples. Like the first section, this study not only covers the flow of the book but shows practical applications of the text to the lives of believers and unbelievers. In addition, this study deals with difficult passages concerning the Holy Spirit, the occult, healing, water baptism and other issues. It also has a table at the end listing the miracles in the book of Acts and the relationship of the Apostles to each miracle (63 pages) Notes on the Book of Romans These notes were developed out of the Meditations sent by the author to various people with appropriate adaptations, revisions and clarifications. It is a verse by verse study of the Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome. The author has tried to deal with any difficulties in interpretation and has included a detailed discussion of all verses with an emphasis on clear understanding and practical application. (127 pages) Notes and Charts on 1 Corinthians The book of 1 Corinthians lends itself to the use of charts in many places. In those places where it did not do so, notes were simply used to explain the verses or passage being studied. This study deals with many practical issues facing Christians. Some of these are church discipline, marriage, divorce and remarriage, and questions of right and wrong concerning behaviors that are not commanded nor forbidden by God’s word. It also deals with tough questions such as head coverings, baptism for the dead and the nature of the believer’s resurrection. (66 pages) Notes on the Book of Ephesians This set of notes covers every verse in the New Testament book of Ephesians. This first part of the study looks at our spiritual blessings, God’s undertakings for our salvation, His merging of all true believers into one spiritual body and two model prayers of Paul. The second part of the study is devoted to our duties in living out the truths of the Christian life and God’s enablement to do so through the Holy Spirit’s filling. This includes God’s provisions for spiritual warfare against Satan and his demons. (50 pages) Notes on the Book of Colossians Paul’s letter to the Colossians discusses the sufficiency of the person and work of Christ to address the false teachings that were being faced by them and by churches today. It concludes by showing how the resurrection and return of Christ is foundational to living a heavenly life to glorify God on this earth here and now. This study uses the New American Standard Bible 1977 edition. Using this translation will help maximize the usefulness of these notes to those who study and read them. (40 pages) Notes on the Book of 1 Timothy Leadership (Section 1) This section gives direction for those who lead in the church whether in a formal or informal sense. This course would be appropriate for a pastor, an elder, a Sunday School Teacher or just a lay-person who in some way functions as a leader or example setter among the believers in a church or parachurch organization. (39 pages) Notes on the Book of 2 Timothy Leadership (Section 2) This section continues to give direction for those who lead in the church whether in a formal or informal sense. The course contains reminders for leaders and their roles. It also deals with rough times for leaders and the need to follow the scriptures. Finally, it sums up what a leader’s ministry should reflect and his relationships with people. (38 pages) Notes on the Book of Titus Leadership (Section 3) This study starts with persons and subjects to be discussed. We see the need for and qualities of leaders explained. These overlap with but do not duplicate 1 Timothy 3:1-7. There is a clear presentation of the duties of various groups within the church. We find the doctrine of salvation discussed in a way that impacts our dedication and lifestyle. The need for leaders to confront and correct error is not avoided but met in a very plain and straightforward manner. (22 pages) Notes on the Book of Revelation These notes explain the text in a plain and normal way and sequence each of the events so that the reader will not get lost in parts of the book that either give the background of that event or give detailed information on the event. There are symbols used throughout the book, but the plain and normal meaning is easily found either in the book of Revelation itself or in other parts of the Bible. (30 pages) Notes on the Book of Hosea This study details how the prophet Hosea married a woman who was very unfaithful to Him but was eventually restored. God through the prophet’s experience showed how Israel represented by the tribe of Ephraim was unfaithful to Him and set forth the judgments that would come on them. However, God also mentioned His promise and plan to eventually restore the nation of Israel to Himself. This is a strong reminder that although God is very merciful and forgiving, He exacts a high price when His people choose the path of sin and rebellion. (25 pages) Notes on the Book of Amos This study deals with each verse of Amos and sets forth the reasons that God brings nations into judgment. While it deals with the northern kingdom of Israel, the instruction is timely in showing believers living in this New Testament era, the need to forsake sin and pursue righteousness motivated by a love for God and a regard for His majesty along with a genuine concern for the plight of our fellow-believers and our fellow-human beings. The study closes with the promise of the restoration of the house of David and the nation of Israel. (14 pages) Notes on the Book of Numbers This study of the Book of Numbers goes section by section to show how it applies to the Christian living under the New Covenant or New Testament. While the Old Testament is not directly applicable, it is profitable or useful. The aim of this study is to show how the direct commands and principles found in this Old Testament book fit with the principles and commands of the New Testament.
